During my first semester of sophomore year, I felt an urgency to figure out my future. I remember I felt like I was behind other students, even though I had just turned 19 and had moved from Ukraine to study in the U.S. It is probably a very common feeling in college, but at the time, it felt like I was wasting my time, especially looking at other students with established networking and real-world experience. So I decided to reach out to my college’s career support office, which initially led me to an inquiry meeting with Brittany, but it ended up changing my life 180 degrees, where, for the first time in a while, I felt like I could clearly see my purpose and wasn’t trying to make my ambitions smaller to fit in.
In my second semester of sophomore year, I became a social media intern at The Winfield Creative, stepping outside my comfort zone to pursue content creation, which is something I had been passionate about long before I knew it could be a career. Throughout the internship, I learned that efficient content isn’t only about a visually appealing image, but it’s also about intention and strategy, while understanding the audience you’re speaking to. What made this experience even more special was how accurately Brittany tailored the internship program to my skills and goals, allowing me to develop technical skills and approach projects with my personal creative vision. But the thing I want to emphasize and express my gratitude for is that working at The Winfield Creative, I felt supported not only as an intern, but as a person who was taken seriously. Through many conversations with Brittany and the work she trusted me with, I learned how to be more confident in expressing myself and taking up space, especially as someone far from home. Her mentorship helped me to understand what parts of marketing feel most aligned with who I am and how I can use them to build my own personal brand. I am so happy my first internship experience was such a positive one, and it truly raised the bar for all my further experiences!
